Moniga Porto is set on the Western shore of Lake Garda, in the heart of the enchanting “Valtenesi”.

With unforgettable landscapes between lake and countryside, Moniga del Garda is a strategic location for trips by boat or on land to discover the most beautiful places in the area.

As for the other villages of the coast of Brescia, the history of Moniga is linked to the Roman and Venetian domination and to the Barbarian invasions.

There are two different interpretations of its name: some believe it derives from the Germanic toponym “Morn” (exposed to the morning) and others from the Greek divinity “Diana Munichia”.

Inhabited since the Bronze Age, Moniga boasts among its beauties one of the oldest churches in the Rivera, the Church of San Martino and the Castle of the tenth century, with its mighty rectangular walls that testifies to the historical and traditional soul of the town.

Even though in recent decades Moniga del Garda has expanded due to the great touristic development, the ancient nucleus of the old centre still retains its medieval charm, with narrow streets from which it is possible to admire glimpses of the lake and striking architectural details.

The City of Chiaretto

Also known as the “City of Chiaretto”, Moniga is famous for its rosé wine, the “Garda Classico Chiaretto” also called “one night wine” for its particular vinification technique that takes place in a single night.

Every year, in June, Moniga organises “Italia in Rosa”, the most important Italian event dedicated to rosé wines.

Significant is also the production of olive oil, protected by the brand “Extra Virgin Olive Oil DOP Garda”.

From the old town to the lake, Moniga is therefore an essential stop in an ideal enogastronomic journey, with excellent products of the local cuisine.

What to do in Moniga del Garda

Despite its small size, the village is a very popular holiday destination, offering its guests a wide choice to have fun and do sports, both on land and water. In addition to equipped beaches, Moniga has tennis courts, football pitches, cycle paths and trails through olive groves and vineyards for mountain bikers.

It is possible to go shopping in the characteristic artisan shops and at the weekly market, which is held on Mondays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

On the border with Moniga, it is also worth visiting Manerba del Garda, known for its extraordinary cliff overlooking the lake, Soiano with the most beautiful golf course in Italy and Padenghe.
